Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and search able at anytime, from anywhere. With the new version of Evernote (still in beta) not only can one download the software but can also work online and later synchronize Of all the available notes solution available in the market, Evernote is one of the most desired software application for taking down notes, pictures, videos, etc. But the bad news for Linux/Ubuntu users is that Evernote installable is only available in Windows XP/Vista and Mac. There is no Linux support.
But using wine I was easily able to install Evernote on my Ubuntu. The steps are as follows:
If you do not have wine installed, you can get it with the following command:
> sudo apt-get install wine
Download the Windows installation executable of Evernote from the Evernote site (http://evernote.com/about/download/)
After wine is install, type the following command:
> wine location where the executable is downloaded
For example, in mine case:
> wine /home/abby/apps/Evernote_3.0.0.594.exe
The installation process starts which is similar similar to Windows.
Complete the installation steps and you will have Evernote installed on your Ubuntu. There shall be a icon to start Evernote on the desktop too after installation is complete.
Since Evernote is in Beta, to get the invitation one need to give there email id at this link (http://www.evernote.com/about/prereg/)and they shall send you the invitation to register. I have 18 invitations remaining. In case you need one, do let me know.
Now no reason to be sad since your favourite Evernote works with your favourite Ubuntu

I did that about a month ago and it has worked without issues. Now, however, I tried to install the upgrade to 3.0.592 beta and I got an Installshield error message saying that I needed either Windows Vista or XP. I think I will uninstall the earlier version and reisntall the latest – unless someone has another idea.

Be sure Wine is configured as Windows XP (from the Wine applications menu) – new installs may default to Windows 2000 mode, which won’t permit the installation. Changing this setting let Evernote install just fine. Crashes when trying to create an ink note, though, which is a bummer.

The Evernote install worked fine, except for the web clipper. It was the most useful feature for me. Did your install include the web clipper function? Any suggestions to get it back?
Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for the tutorial. I got Evernote installed just fine. But I have a question. It has a lot of black boxes in the interface. I’ve tried loading new video drivers but they don’t help. Is there a setting that might improve the appearance?
Thanks!

Thanks for the excellent instructions! I plan on using Evernote 2.2 on an openSUSE 11.1 install. I am doing an experiment and trying to see if I can work an entire week on Linux. Evernote is critical to my day to day business operations (I don’t use the advanced features) and I would be lost without it.

I tried to install Evernote 3.5 in Wine, but it didn’t work. Something about some component to be downloaded that couldn’t be verified. Maybe .net related. Version 3.1 installed OK, though.

I have just installed on Ubuntu 9.10
Installed Wine 1.0.1 from Synaptic Package Manager.
Downloaded Evernote_3.1.0.1225.exe
Moved the .exe to a userx\apps folder then ran
“wine Evernote_3.1.0.1225.exe” installed the program without a problem.
A shortcut is placed on your desktop.
I got “connection timeout” a couple of times when I tried to login then it but then it logged in normally and slowly downloaded by Notebooks from my account
Like Helge I tried Evernote 3.5. This required .net 3.5 which does not work with the stable version of wine.
